People that can create a aged look to paint finish

When I was working on my flathead I decided to replace a number of parts, some for functionality and some to come more in line with the vision I had. That left me with some aged portions on the bike and some newly painted/fresh portions. I didn't love the mix and match at first and debated having everything refreshed, but I like the look of a used bike that has scars and stories to tell. In the end I decided to leave the old stuff old and the new stuff new. I won't fret over a scratch or nick in my newly painted parts, they'll just add to the character and story the bike will tell under my watch.Eric Olson

It’s YOUR bike. Do with it as you will. Enjoy it how you see fit. With that being said…some of the patina paint jobs look awful to me. When done right though it’s amazing what some of the painters can pull off.Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile....

I don't think anyone could (or would) argue with that sentiment.Originally posted by montuckymatt View PostIt’s YOUR bike. Do with it as you will. Enjoy it how you see fit.
I believe the only reason these 'patina jobs' are being questioned is, as Mike Love said, "some people out there could try to pass off a paint job that is "aged" as a true antique."

Ahhh got it! I should have read and not skimmed the posts. I can see how some of the better paint jobs could be portrayed as original paint or barn find. Sucks people would not disclose that to a buyer. It’s just scamming at that point.
