email from amca customer service about partnering with Hello by grouper.
I am just curious if the club paid them to provide service and benefits to interested members,or if the club gets paid for providing members info.

This latest blast email about Grouper is not the first. The first one promised every AMCA member would receive $50.00 for joining Grouper. That failed for some unknown reason. Now this second pitch. Although the owner of Grouper may indicate your personal information or joining information will not be used or sold to third parties, that's no guarantee they won't. I always ask when I see one of these pitches: How does a site like Grouper make money? If you download the Grouper app, you are giving Grouper the right to access your personal online information. I always use a very simple rule when deciding whether to join a website: When in doubt, don't join. This Grouper site seems to encourage AMCA members to eat well and exercise. One doesn't need to join Grouper to do that.

Thanks for repy.It appears they make their money by providing or connecting services for free and then billing government partners.

Tom, I don’t think here is government money being paid to Grouper for telling its members to eat well and exercise. Maybe insurance companies may be paying Grouper but that may require Grouper to provide member contact information to the insurance companies.

I'm kinda curious, along the lines of Tom's question, about how these people got all our e-mail addresses?

I think the email came from AMCA, not grouper.

Just checked Grouper privacy policy. This really says it all. Not sure why anyone would agree to share all this information with this company.

Thanks Richard, if you don't know how Grouper got our e-mail addresses that's okay, or even why AMCA sent the Grouper solicitation, but I don't think the Grouper privacy statement answers that question.

The blast email to all AMCA members came from the AMCA not from Grouper. Grouper only gets the information listed in its privacy policy if an AMCA member signs up through the Grouper website. The risk is if Grouper gets hacked, all the information loaded on its website can be stolen and possibility used for identity theft and other nefarious reasons. As I understand Grouper, the site is to encourage people to eat healthy food and exercise. Most folks already know that.
