I keep getting the same message; "The website is too busy to show the webpage". I can still access the forum the old way.

The Events list - 2020 Nat'l Meets and Road Runs - on the website shows nothing past May 22, 23.
I was told that 2020 Road Run registration info. and links would also be available as of today.
I just scrolled down with the arrow on the right, it seemed to all be there and worked for me.

It is for the website, not the forum as the email explained. I believe to access club info and the library, etc. you will need to do as directed in the email.

I did not get the promised January 2 email so toward the end of the day (7pm Chicago time) I wrote to the person listed on the AMCA site as the relevant contact to ask if that was a problem, or if they're rolling the emails out slowly to avoid overload. In 20 min. I got a personal response with the temporary login name and password so I'm now (re)registered on the AMCA site. I count that as excellent service, especially when dealing with a major change like this one.

got mine, got in, no problem. renewed immediately with no issues. emailed a question and got a response from the new guys in ten minutes. emailed again and Kizer himself responded (thanks Keith!). they are working hard, folks! it will all be fine. and as promised, no impact to my ability to get on this forum. pretty smooth if you ask me!

happy new year to all AMCA members!

It just bothers me that so many of our members never come here to contribute their vast knowledge of vintage, and true antique motorcycle history.
i tried resisting to respond to Eric's post, but i cannot. From my perspective of being a '27JD enthusiast, i have to echo "It just bothers me that so many of our members never come here to contribute their vast knowledge of vintage, and true antique motorcycle history." i've been as enthusiastic as i know how, shared my ignorance and shared what little i know in my two build threads, the JD13514 build thread gets precious little responses other than those who've visited my threads (thank you to you know who you are). not getting responses to questions i have had and while not ever caring much for facebook, i felt i had to out of necessity join JDfacebook, happy to say very very active on a daily basis, nearly always get immediate answers, guys willing to share info, always help in any way they can, swap parts, sell parts and even give parts yet i'm sad to say this most fine forum with most fine fellows with knowledge and experience i do not have just is not much participated in at least in things JD.

Same problem today, however we are out of town, and perhaps our desk top computer at home will perform better. Still getting the same message about being too busy, with this additional explanation:

This error (HTTP 408 Request Timeout or HTTP 409 Conflict) means that the server took too long to display the page or there were too many people requesting the same webpage.

I'm in with no problem. Renewed my membership as well as bought some merchandise from the store!
Now I just have to remember my newly assigned username.

just wrapped it up myself. I agree, it is unusual to not easily find the way to opt out of the member directory. But the process was simple and painless.

As for the forum requiring membership . . . I help moderate one private and one public site. The private site is much better "curated" than the garbage that gets barfed out on the public site. Granted, when you get deeper into more specialized bikes the number of BS'ers and guys just wanting social time goes way down, but still there are plenty of folks who love to troll. I probably spend more of my time dealing with guys we have booted either creating fake accounts and trying to get back in to cause trouble -- or sending a barrage of hate mail for getting removed.

In other words, having membership means those inclined to share have had to think further than pressing a button -- and in the case of the AMCA have had to pay actual dues. Generally, folks are more careful about their interactions when they have skin in the game. No one walks up to King Kong and punches him in the 'nads -- but online every one is BIGGER than Kong.

Keep in mind that the club has something like 11,000 dues paying members; but only a fraction participate in judging and only a fraction join chapters and only a fraction come on this forum. By contrast, the AMCA Facebook page has something north of 20,000 "members." So, the stats say when you make it easy and super accessible you have lots of numbers.

But is volume what we are after or "good" information?

The net is littered with mythology and garbage information as it is . . . at least here people post real information and actual photos of what it is they are talking about. That is way better than the bar stool parrots that litter so many forums and can't produce one shred of evidence to back their claim(s).

Just my limited opinion. I come on here for real information -- not to socialize. I prefer to socialize in person at AMCA meets or via private email. Other motorcycle sites I visit for pure entertainment.

Last point -- many greybeards are computer savvy enough for email -- but not many really want to spend hours typing up what's rattling in their heads. Similarly, few of the questions on this forum are general "fix my scoot" questions -- they are more specialized in nature and many AMCA members (including me) don't necessarily have the information to accurately respond.

So, how many guys who don't spend a lot of time typing and online really want to take hours to type, edit, gather photos and THEN post? It's a heck of an investment of time few are willing to make. Not to mention, you can't hide when you go public with information and few guys are truly willing to say: "oops, I got that wrong." Most will just clam up and never come back . . .

I agree with everything you said Chuck especially about many older people and typing not being common place. Maybe more are working on their stuff instead of typing like us. I am only on this forum because it is members only, not as much bs in my opinion. The answers to questions seem more correct here than just opinion based.
