A very tough first day for the 2016 Cannonball--brutal heat and 26 of the 90 motorcycles didn't finish the 154-mile course. Here's a link to tonight's update, including Stage 1 standings: http://www.antiquemotorcycle.org/ind...t01returnid=97

Looking at the pictures on the Cannonball home page, it appears the gentleman with the wicker sidecar will have to deal with some extra top end weight while navigating across this country. http://www.motorcyclecannonball.com/...he-grand-start

OK, I will say it before anyone else does. I didn’t realise that vehicles of that age came with built in air-bags.

After oppressive heat yesterday, the challenge for Cannonball riders today included steep grades in the Appalachian Mountains on the way from York, PA, to Morgantown, WV. And the ranks of the riders who have completed every mile has already dwindled to just 30 of the 90 entrants. Here's tonight's update: http://www.antiquemotorcycle.org/ind...t01returnid=97

I forget, what are the different penalty points given out for? I think the 100 is for combined riders on one machine, but what about the others being accessed? Thanks.

                            machining offer

To the folks that are running the cannonball, I would like to make an offer to volunteer machining if needed over the next day or two. I have a small machine shop just west of Dayton, OH. About an hour from the Mason lunch stop tomorrow. I know some of you have traveling machine shops but if I can help, respond here with your contact info and I'll call, I do not do facebook or have a cell phone. I have mills, lathes , surface and OD grinders, honing machine, steel welding and brazing capabilities, light heat treating, hydraulic press, etc.

Here a few select pics from the stop in Morgantown WV. Perfect weather. First Pic was first rider to arrive.

Downloaded these and more to Photobucket- slideshow link http://s1064.photobucket.com/user/ma...organtown%20WV

Gary Webkahuna- After posting I saw a another thread had been started named 2016 Cannonball Photos. You can move these to that thread if you like.

More from arrival day 9/11. Check out second pic. The bikes are surrounded by the spectators and you can't see them. Its a wonder the tired riders didn't run someone over after the check-in point. People don't seem to understand they need to get out of the way of a tired rider on a 100 year old machine.
