    me too!

    Hey AdminGuy, here's my first post... pretty much the same as those above but I'll say it anyway;

My vote is the AMCA should go forward with real time classifieds here online for it's members. The concern of fairness because not everyone has internet access is noble but a detriment to to the hobby. It's like saying the swap meets should be discontinued because not everyone is able to attend them.

We all enjoy the magazine, but who solely relies on the "reCycleables" to get their projects completed? Waiting for fresh ads on a quarterly basis just doesn't cut it and is the reason I rarely use it to buy or sell.

I fail to see how posting the same quarterly magazine ads, online, seven days after delivery would improve things. It's still every quarter, some would still receive their magazines in the mail before the rest and most likely, anything good will be already be long sold before it hits these pages. Not to mention the folks without computers are still.....

Hey, I'm not a computer whiz, I struggle with mine but I stepped up because today's world is beyond telephone and color TV. Sure, maybe lots of members don't have computers but for many thats also a lifestyle choice, and for others access is readily available when they want or need it thru family and friends. It will be a sad day when our club starts blaming eBay for diminished memberships and club participation.

I'm new to this wed site and think it can be a great club asset for parts and exchange of knowledge. No doubt real time classifieds will bring in the members.

    Best Regards, Jerry

P.S. Andy, I too did a few laps at Kissina back in the 70's.

Hey, Jerry, you grow up in Queens? Remember drag races on Clearview Xpresswy, Cross bay Blvd and Worlds fair Marina? Jack O'Malley used to whip everyone on his CB750 and Z1 and at the end of the night when bets were collected, he'd say "here's your money back, just come down to my new shop, Orient Express, and buy speed parts and let me build your motor." They did, and all their buddies, now Jack is a millionaire.

yes!!!!!!!! Real time classifieds for members only. Thats why we join. We all share the same passion and the more members we have sharing information about parts needed, or bikes for sale, the less we have to worry about buying junk.

[i think that the ads should be on the internet. would help buyers and sellers. thanksQUOTE]Originally posted by AdminGuy
A letter was proposed to the membership in the September zine. Asking for input regarding the posting of this information on the web site. Four letters were received back from the membership. Three against. One Pro. The board acted on this response and said no.

Would you like to see want ads up on this site? Vote in the poll above.

Classified adverts in a live database would be searchable.

I think adds on the web can only benefit, I have no problem with a delay as mentioned. Time to get it done already While I was getting my '81 GL100 back on the road, I actually joined GWRRA *because* of their online adds/forums.

They have a great concept in that they even post articles in their club rag (very nice professional glossy pubication) from the technical sections on their web site (in fact one of my posts hit their magazine!). I found great advice on old Goldwings and some parts and parts sources.

Actually the web forums were also a source of material for their techical section.

You could not post adds unless you were a member, but I beleive they left them open to the public, they were not a vintage orginization. I think I'd like to see the adds open only to members (viewable and posted only by members).
Bottom - line, I think a strong web presence won't affect the club magazine, if done right.

I'd say it looks like the majority so far has been provide the post 7 day view on the web. Why can't we get started that way now, and make modification on the policies along the way?

So - in the meantime, is it bad etiquette if I would ask if anyone has "part x" or a lead on "part x" in one of the forums? For example, for my '65 Pan I'd like to find an NOS widget - can I ask on the panhead forum "Does anyone have an NOS widget they'd like to sell?" Or is that considered taboo at this point?

I vote yes to classified ads on this site. I keep reading that the club wants to attract younger members. Guess what, younger members want info on web sites.

                  I vote *Yes* for adverts.

I would love to see live adverts/classified adds here = Just make the add *removed* by a certain date or deletable by the author or moderator once the item is gone! The object of most sellers is to make a buck, either as a business or just to pass along spare/unwanted parts -- The object of most buyers is to find a needed part at a decent price... The web today offers an unavoidable competition at a global level - If people do not find something they want/need in one place they will always go someplace else that serves their needs - Most of my *acquired* parts have been through classified adds, and about 95% have come from *Over Seas or Australian* sellers because I have found little in my area of need or realistic price range for Pre-1925 Harley Davidson in the US market.

                    I vote yes!
                    But without the delay.
                    Real time adds are needed.

                      Here goes my first post!

I vote yes for classifieds. I often look at www.aaca.org which is the website for the Antique Automobile Club of America. It accepts ads from members and non-members and even non-registered users. They don't post ads from their magazine. They also have forums for other car clubs.

I think posting ads here from the Antique Motorcycle is a great idea, I lean towards a 5-7 day delay to make things more fair. This would give our overseas friends a chance, an issue I hadn't considered until I read some of the posts in this thread.

Also, I think allowing other posts is a good idea but restricting posting and viewing of all ads to AMCA members only. This might help keep controls on some of the less honest people.
