Since the entire job description said all work has to be funneled back to the Board by way of the Presidents approval of all aspects of the work required, why not cut out the middle man and Hire Richard to take the position, since also he wrote or approved the job Description, he must think it is not too heavy of a load for one man/women to carry out. This way he will be able to go to any event he deems appropriate, on the Clubs expense account, approve his own accomplishments and write about it in the Magazine for all to enjoy. Chris,
The notice for the AMCA Executive Director position and job description was posted on various social media sites around June 8, 2014 and on the AMCA website on June 22 under the news section. It's still there. The position was also advertised in the magazine. There has been no shortage of applicants. Over 100 individuals applied. Scion, the national professional search firm, is conducting the search for the Board, interviewing prospective applicants and recommending candidates for the position. Several candidates are currently under review by the Board.

If I recall correctly Chris, you were present at the Board Town Hall Meeting at the Ft. Sutter Chapter National Meet on June 21, 2014 where I discussed the process of hiring an ED and the timetable set by the Board for completing the process.

Contrary to another post on this thread, the initial draft of the ED job description was compiled by Board Member/Vice President, Trudi Johnson-Richards (she performed the equivalent of this job for three years) and Bill Wood, Operations Manager. That draft was then reviewed and modified by the entire Board and finally reviewed and approved by Scion.

For anyone familiar with the operation of the AMCA, not every function in the job description is performed every day. However, the description encompasses about everything that is currently done by the Board and former Operations Manager, Bill Wood.

Spag! as always, thanks for hanging out here. I thought it was good too, when Pete Gagan gave us an occasional post, touched base on things, took a pulse or two, but you've been more accountable by far, than any of our previous presidents, despite the poor odds on the ability to please all. I didn't read the entire job description, but feel that communications here would be a prominent criteria for our next press. Again, thanks for your active presence.

My first reaction to the description is that it is a bar-too-high, a plate-too-full. It almost seems as though the new ex-dir would need a half-dozen lieutenants to individually manage focus issues, perhaps on smaller contracts, perhaps on a volunteer basis with "supports" that meet compensatory incentives. But I'm fairly certain that the board have thought this out, and hearing that you have 100 applicants and a half-dozen under consideration is assuring. I don't feel we're in any kind of crisis anyway, just trying to be forward-thinking. ..... after all, you're still working for free, aren't you (!?, wink-wink)!!

My second reaction is that, .. dang!... has the world changed so much? have we so reached the big-time? where things have to be so calculated and accountable? Have we summoned the ghost of Bob McLean lately?

On the other hand, I'm comfortable just waiting impassionately, confident that things can motor along without serious threat to our enjoyments.
            and thx for the update.

The only "Old Bike" club of somewhat similar size I know of is the VMCC in Britain. They have about 17,000 members and have had a substantial office building and paid staff, including a CEO/Manager, in order to operate successfully for many years. I think the AMCA has tried to get along with a pretty slim operation by outsourcing the Editorial, preparation, printing and mailing of the magazine and membership details, Web site., etc.. Not always as successful in all respects as some would like and I think that it has needed a good deal more co-ordinating effort than what can be done with - and by- volunteer Board members who are at distances from one another and only meet twice a year.
