Results are delayed a bit this evening, so I haven't finished tonight's Cannonball update. I'm going to catch a little sleep and see if I can wrap something up in the morning before we head out for the day.

Now down to just four Class I bikes (under 700cc) with a perfect score at the top of the Cannonball standings after a 250-mile day from Utah to Idaho. Still led by South Africa's Hans Coertse on his '24 Indian Scout, but Norm Nelson has moved up to second on his '28 BMW. Weather looks good all the way to Tacoma!

      Here's yesterday's report.

A bunch of these guys all have 'perfect' scores, how do they figure a 'winner'?

Bill Wood provided a very clear explanation of scoring either on the Cannonball site or on the main AMCA site. Unfortunately, I couldn't find that post just now. Anyway, the bikes are in three classes according to displacement. If bikes in all three classes end up with perfect scores, the win goes to the bike in the smallest displacement class. If there's a tie in that class, the win goes to the oldest bike. If there's still a tie because two bikes have the same age, the win goes to the oldest rider. The process of determining the overall winner goes in that order. However, a serious flaw is I don't think allowances were made for bikes of the same age ridden by twins who both get perfect scores...

Update: I found Bill Wood's post explaining the scoring system in detail. It's at:

If they aren't there already... they will be arriving soon.

My friend Duda (a forum member here) had a perfect score as of last night... Buzz Kanter is doing well, too.

I am SOOOOO doing the Cannonball next couple of years. '15 is out. But '16 maybe. Probably. For sure.

Cheers and, Duda, way to go, my friend!

Sirhr, There is no Cannonball for 2015. They come every 2 years, so the next is 2016. From what I heard they are going back to 1916 and earlier bike cap.

Now that the Cannonball has concluded, thanks to all the participants and their support personnel who first had the courage to enter, then persevere the many challenges along the way and finally experience the joy and satisfaction of either finishing the entire course or for just participating.

The Cannonball is an example of the spirit and enthusiasm within the vintage motorcycle community. The camaraderie, support for each other along the way and the sense of doing something special and unique is probably unmatched by any other old bike event.

And special thanks to Lonnie Isam for conceiving the Cannonball and having the enthusiasm and energy to continue this event every two years. And again special thanks to Bill Wood for his exceptional reporting on the Cannonball. I believe all those following his daily reports on the Forum are truly grateful for all his time and effort.

As one who followed Bill Wood’s daily reports I must add my “thanks much” to that of all the others. My first stop in the morning was the AMCA web site to read Bill’s updates. What a great event and what fabulous coverage!

                      Congratulations to all involved.

I heartily second that sentiment. Thanks Bill!

I checked the Blog a couple of times a day and can't thank everyone enough (especially Bill!) for the great coverage.

Can't wait for the next one... and I'll ride the Cannonball one of these days for sure!

                            Cheers,

                              Hello Lonnie and all.
Thank you Lonnie and your dedicated crew for a wonderful ride across the USA.
At this time, for me, it is very hard to put into words the experience. I just know it was a unique experience. The other riders will perhaps know this feeling.
I'm already thinking of the next Cannonball. I just hope I can make it.
                              Thank you again.
