I have seen NOS ones sell for over $5000. Its crazy! I have had three of them and have not paid over $500. Guess those were really good deals! I guess it would really suck to have an original paint 49 with no muffler or muffler cover. This muffler sold for $3840 and the last muffler cover I saw on ebay just a week or so ago sold for around $1200.

That muffler selling for that will probably make a few more available on ebay. There is already one listed with a $3750 buy it now, but its just a rusty repop.

You can buy a perfect reproduction muffler from Carl Olson for $330.00. The stainless steel muffler cover fits perfect on Carls muffler. I put one on my 44 U and I bought another at Davenport for my 45F.

The guy who sold that one is a great guy as noted above. I sold one about eight months or go or so on ebay that, like the one listed, was NOT original paint and was similar in apperance. As I recall, mine went for 2400 and was the last one I have seen since. The original paint ones have brought stronger money and as 46EL points out, there is a reason why against the value of original paint machines. One of the first questions I always inquire about on the buy side is whether the seat, muffler, headlight and wiring harness are original or not. Generally speaking, those items tend to speak volumes about the overall originality of a machine before you get the pictures and definately have a real affect on value- again generally speaking. BTW I bought an NOS VL muffler at Jefferson this year and you would be surprised how much that thing was despite original paint vls dont tend to bring half the
OHV money. Mufflers rotted out bigtime so they are extremely hard to find despite the long HD run of them. Anthony.
