  • Isn't this the same girl in both photos wearing almost the exactly same outfit? Which I personally find quaint and fashionable for the day. This (girl pouring) photo I originally identified as Lillian Hauerwas, but later I obtained the other girl-on-bike photo from the Harley family that identified the girl rider as Crystal Haydel. They look and are dressed so similar that I wondered if the girl pouring photo might be Crystal Haydel too and not Hauerwas. But the one you posted identifies that one as Lillian Hauerwas. It's one of the other -- or possibly both. [/QUOTE]

It has to be Lillian Hauerwas in both pictures. Picture #1. i posted, was from the Harley-Davidson Motor Company Archives. I seriously doubt that Harley-Davidson would have made a mistake identifying her as the rider/poser! The 2nd picture Eric posted. It is the exact outfit, right down to the pins on her left lapel area, and her bow on her hat, plus the puttees. There would be a Massive Cat fight, if they were two different women wearing the same Out-FIT. Hahaha. *Besides, isn't that a 1917 JD Lillian is standing next to? Look at the front cylinder, the plug is laying on the right floorboard, and my guess is that Lillian is ready to pour some H-D Lubricant to prime the chamber.

**Here is a dandy article about Lillian Hauerwas.

    • I think you're right on every count, JoJo. Same clothes, and no doubt the same girl. I said 1916 because the photo indicates a lighter color (H-D Gray) which always looks lighter than the Drab Green color that started in 1917. However, early '17s were also Gray, but I think it's just the lighting of the photograph that makes it look lighter just like Lillian's clothes are lighter than in the photo above. Finally, I was looking for tell-tale signs of a 1916 when I noticed the lower pic shows full intake pushrod covers that started in 1917. You have a good eye for details JoJo
