Interesting to see that long dry spell of Daytona wins for Harley-Davidson, but after 13 years Paul Goldsmith on a new KR takes the 1953 Daytona win, to be followed by many more. This special tool for racing was still being sold new as late as 1966.

Peter, My 1930 KJ came with that spark plug shield but I didn't care for the look. I sold it to Tom Fickau. I put the Rajah rubber covers on the plug wires. I have been zapped while riding a 1930 Indian 4 with no covers, though. Ouch!!

I agree, they really look like an add-on, but I like accessories and it definitely serves a purpose, so I'll go for it. And easily removed if need be.

The first time I felt the KJ-zap I was surprised. I felt it in my fingers when I moved my hand off the handgrip and touched the bars. I had no idea my leg was contacting a spark plug. The human body is a good conductor!

Speaking of the late Toney Watson~yes, he sure was a treasure. I remember that KJ Eric, when I picked up some Police Pursuit parts from Toney when I was hunting down Motor unit pieces for a 1953 Indian Roadmaster NY State Police Motorcycle that was purchased at an Pennsylvania auction. By auction criteria, they had to remove all the Police operating parts. Took awhile, but I managed them all, and a lot of thanks to Toney.

This is a picture of my 1930KJ and me taken last week. . . . I mean pre-millennium. I think this is the only picture I have of it. I kick myself for not taking more pictures of the bikes I've had and sweated over but that was largely due to the nuisance of film cameras with cost of film, processing, and pressure to get the best picture. That is one of the things we take for granted with phone cameras.

This is what is looked like when I first got it, and I had no idea what was right or wrong. Of course the DeLuxe top end was wrong, combined with narrow DeLuxe connecting rods on a KJ bottom end. Amazing that I rode it around with norrow Deluxe rods and every possibility of a binding and a bottom end explosion. This was pre-KJ renaissance and there was ZERO support for any Henderson motorcycles. Fortunately there were devoted enthusiasts in the AMCA that were happy to give advice, and some would provide parts. Toney Watson produced a lot of the correct parts and his advice, and friendship was instrumental in making this bike come together. Toney wound up with the KJ in a deal that made both of us happy. Miss Toney, don't miss the KJ (I don't like KJs) The girl was very supportive, and still a friend.

Here is a picture of a brand new 1929 Henderson with sidecar our local police department bought. I am now restoring what I believe is that bike.
