Picture 1379 has the one-year 1935 VL air intake, and it looks like the picture was taken in the late 1940s/early 50s, by which time the bike has been ;modernised' with the 16 inch wheels. It's always nice to see pictures of real bikes in service, rather than factory new model mock-ups or showroom machines.Comment

Dear Bob, yeah, what's going on with that VL in picture 1379? Why didn't people take photos which show the engine number? And I've only just noticed the sidecar... The chromed headlight has been moved to the front of the mudguard, with the wiring laid along the top and the original mount left on. Maybe he's used the front number plate holes to make that strange structure. The rocket ship chrome features are the rear bumper overriders on the car behind, doh! Note the ride control knob is cad not black. The seat post has an outside spring for a heavy rider and to save the buddy seat auxiliary spring set-up. The rear stand has been bent up (that must have been hard) and a later stand catch put on backwards by the look of it. The front of the primary cover looks like the 1930 style with the deep dome for the cushion sprocket. The speedo drive is a variation on the 1930/31 type and not the 1932-up hub drive, and that might be the weedy 1930 rear brake operating lever before it was strengthened in '31. Statistically 1930 is the most produced VL year, so maybe that's what it is after 20 years riding, accessorising and bodging. Great!.Comment
