Bobby Hill told me about the 1954 Daytona race. Nortons had won in '41 '50 with Billy Mathews & with Dick Klamfoth in '49 '51 & '52. Indian won '47 '48 Harley '53. BSA had their day in 1954 with Bobby Hill taking first with 4 more BSAs in 2nd-5th. I said Dick Klamfoth must have been right behind him. Bobby & Dick laughed, Bobby said there was nobody right behind me ! Dick said, I was behind alright, when I would round the turn to the front stretch, I could see Bobby rounding the next turn ahead of me, there was no catching Bobby that day ! Bobby won by over 20 seconds ahead of Dick. Bobby was on a rigid frame BSA & Dick was on a heavier swing arm BSA
