    Engine has been sold.

Yes, it was an 11000 number, 'normal' cases and flywheels.

The only surviving early motor with the small cases known so far is 30V1238 at Wheels Through Time museum. A few of the early recalled bikes with engine numbers under 3000, on replacement cases, are around. Some of the numbers look like they may have been stamped by the dealers rather the factory.
Hard to tell with a drill bit hiding them. I simply don't understand the paranoia and hiding of numbers. Do these guys hide their numbers when the bike is on the road?

        Me either, Chris!

If you know you've got valid 'paper' and possession, then isn't a display of your numbers on the 'Web just more documentation to warn the unscrupulous to avoid stamping the same?

Less than a generation from now, such web posts could very well become "provenance"...

I did not have valid paper on this engine. If I had, I would have no qualms with displaying the numbers.
