Have to comment:
sport scouts production line had some poor quality control on the welding of the frames and forks. Crazy how these beasts tore up the tracks at high speeds! and no surprise here, that the number of surviving ss's would be rarer than, uhh, that other color.
They must have decided in mid-40 to get more thorough.

It used to be that there were a lot of NOS military Scout parts around. When I built my 1940 SS, I found quite a lot of parts still in Army OD Green, wrapped in Cosmoline.
