    Joe!
That's it. I have to get one of those. The shots you posted are not in my service manual.
Mike Breeding also recently told me there was no center stand or jiffy stand on the 741. my manual has photos in it where you can clearly see all three. Now I'm wondering if my manual is really very accurate at all because I found another area where my manual contradicted itself when talking about a procedure.
I bought one of those spiral bound re-print combinations.
    Thank you for posting those.

John the 741 came with a "Jiffy"/side stand and a Rear wheel stand.

" I have to get one of those."

      As to the 741 manuals:
      Go to AMCA Library
Search Terms "Indian" and "1942" (I could be wrong there may be 1941)
As an AMCA member you will have access to manuals For Your Personal Use..
If you are lazy, like yours truly, and don't want to continually return to the library
DOWNLOAD the Manual to a thumb drive or your PC/laptop.

        JR,

        rear stand….

I don’t know if the archives has a copy of this manual or not but it’s definitely the one to have. It starts out with uncrating the bike and setting it up and maintaining it…

And a lot of nice detail pictures

I had a 741 years ago, and it was a nice bike, easy starting, dependable. Not too powerful but good enough for side roads.

This was mine. Good luck with yours. If you can’t find that manual let me know I might have a photocopy available.

Thanks to both of you. I happen to share Paul's laziness (humor intended here) because when I first started looking at the 741 I found Indianfred's free manuals website. I think there were several 741 manuals there. Can't remember the years. When I joined the AMCA I was into verticals and don't think I ever looked in the library for the 741 books. Anyway, when I obtained my 1941 reprints, that became my standard and I never thought to look through the other ones because Connor's book doesn't change in his listing of parts (I don't think it does). I thought all the manuals would be the same. Well, I talked to people here and to those I have bought parts from, like Robin Markey, who told me about the three different mufflers they used on the 741. So some of these things I thought were contradictions in the manual are most likely just differences of parts variation from year to year or use to use.
              That's a fine bike, Joe.
              Thanks again.

What about the center stand. Which one is the correct one?
                Here are a couple photos.

Left most looks like 1941 Sport Scout (IMO) One on Right appears to be 1940 Sport Scout

Ok. That's a 640 center stand (above right). Just found it in the manual PN 75587.
Does anyone have a photo of the correct 741 center stand or was it the same?
There is no center stand listed in the parts list--only jiffy and rear stands.

                      JR,

The 741 only has the side (jiffy) stand and the rear stand, there is no center stand.

Are you sure you have a 741 frame? If you have a casting for a center stand you might have a 640B frame. Are you sure you have a 741 engine? 741 has 6 bolt heads, 640B has 7 bolt heads.

                          John;
My brother, you answered your own question the manual in #41 above is for 1940 Sport Scout (640 or 640B) NOT for 741

FLFD7 posted 741 side and rear stands in #33 above first 2 photos

Ah! Now it makes sense. The information in the manual is for both and when you read the text, some sections should be read closely because if a part is on one and not the other, they just omit the information. Sometimes descriptions are close and you could easily confuse one for the other. In many places Indian used side-by-side charts and they are easy to read. This is an in-text reference with headings for each model and they just don't say anything about the center stand in the 741 section just for the reason Joe mentions--didn't use one.
Thanks to Joe and Paul for clearing up my confusion.

                              JR,

Do yourself a favor and use this manual….

                              IMG_2653.jpeg
It is strictly 741, no confusion.

Like Paul said, use the AMCA library….

                                IMG_2690.jpeg

From the home page under features pull down click on the vintage m/c library

                                IMG_2691.jpeg

Click on this link (you will have to sign in) for the library

                                IMG_2693.jpeg

you can click on the start browsing and there is a search box, I put in 741

                                IMG_2694.jpeg

and here are the search results, there is the same manual I have. You can look at it on the screen or you can (and should) download it for future reference.

                                Hope that works for you.
