  • 1940 Indian 4 battery model wiring diagram

I am looking for the wiring diagram for a 1940 Indian 4 battery model. The virtual library has diagrams for 1941-42. It shows two fuses stating that one should be under the dash cover. I don't see a fuse in this location but maybe it is hidden and was wondering if this second fuse did not apply to 1940. It appears it might be for the horn.

I have seen a diagram that AMCA member Bill Gordon did for magneto ignition. Did he do the same for battery? If so, where can I find one - I browsed the internet and struck out.

    Thanks,

I recently wired my '41 SS and I am aware of the fuse (under dash) shown in some diagrams. I believe it was between main power and the horn which is understandable due to the draw by a horn. The SS, Chief, and Four had the same wiring and I chose not to put a fuse under the dash because it is too crowded in there. I have a fuse in the round terminal box under the seat, and used an additional (Jerry Greer) circuit breaker between the battery, and round terminal box. I've tested everything under power and everything works (as of now. If you want to attempt to fit a fuse under the dash for your own peace of mind, have at it. Like I said, it is very cramped and crowded under there.

On the Starklite/Kurleys site they have wiring diagrams for 1938 and 1939 Indian 4. (I was going to try and post copies here but images were too large?) Hope that helps.

Thanks for the feedback, it is helpful. I took a look at the 1939 diagram, and it is a bit different from the 40-42 due to the terminal block in the diagram and no fuses. I agree under the dash is crowded so I thought if they included it in 1940 maybe it was hidden that is why I asked if this was a 41-42 option and not in 1940
