  • steering bearings

    Hi,

    I have a few questions:
-what kind of bearing(s) does it take in the Steering head of the 38-39 frame?
-What is recommended for the rims: the hard powdercoat or just spray work?

    Thanks,
    Ed

If it's a Harley? 34 loose 8860 ball bearings = 34 5/16" loose ball bearings. As far as paint, it all depends on your painting budget. I for one would never look down on a man for being smart enough to use a $5 buck can of rattle black. Bob L

      Bob,
      it's an Indian 4 1938-39.
I would like to replace the old bearings with an angular contact bearing or cone bearing.

Jerrygreers Indian sells a modified tapered roller for the bottom bearing. For the top they have stock lower race ,balls and large cone nut wich is the upper race,or a cheaper thin one piece sealed ball bearing that you machine off a portion the old upper race to use.
They have a great online catalog .
