    hoping someone knows correct tank decal and rim and spoke finish for 30 chief, cant find to much info on this year in the usual places, thanks

      I believe 1930 Indian hubs, rims, spokes, and nipples were painted black. I seem to recall from my Big Chief projects that 1931 Indians changed to cadmium spokes and nipples. You would think that painting everything black on a wheel would be the easy way to go but overspray is the problem.

        In the magazine archives: 1978 Vol 17 #2 Summer there is: 1930 Indian Chief Restoration by Mark Wright;
        Three color pictures which was pretty good for 1978 plus some black and whites. Although Mr. Wrights 1930 is done in Indian Red the suggestions Harry and Exeric offer appear spot on.

            If you have hatfields restoguide 32-53 figures #2and 3show picsof 30 chief compared to 31,and you can see pinstriping.

                ...make certain to read the lengthy caption under figure 5 in the same Hatfield's guide, pretty interesting note about pinstriping in period photos being retouched to look larger!
