  • India battery sealing

I am changing out my chief battery with another new India repro 6v battery.I haven't had great past results with tying to seal the leaky terminal tabs.
    Any suggestions?
    Tom

    Well, Tom,...

The Internet suggested a mix of carbon black (or graphite), baking soda, and cyanoacrylate stupid-glue (avoid gels). (Since it isn't structural, you might get away without the soda.

(I have a different application to try soon, but acid isn't part of the project.)

Most of my customers that had issues with DIXIEs over-filled them, but seepage is still a long-term concern!

PS: What's a dry Eversure Auto Agency battery worth these days?

    Askin' for a friend...

These batteries are know to have leak issues. It's almost impossible to seal them as they are cheaply built. A real threat to corrosion issues. When you tilt the bike on it's side to deploy the center stand, acid will come pouring out and get trapped in crevices. It's not good. I use the shell with better quality battery inside. No mess.

At risk of repeating myself, Folks,..

The Dixies weren't much of an issue if they were filled to just cover the plates, and no more.

(They do need a very, very long trickle-charge before use, however, as they are not "dry-charged".)

The seams at the terminals will 'flower' with an acid corrosion, which is what we are really addressing; Grease worked to a degree.

Thanks for suggestions Tom and Deebs.I have the boxes with 6and 12 v,but will be using my last on the self India repro on this bike.
Its replacing the same which had a short two-year life because my trickle charger did not shut off at full charge and just boiled the battery.
I am aware of the over fill and center stand issues.
I have used grease, permatex and 2part epoxy but results are poor.I think fumes exit the terminals causing corrosion without liquid leaking.
I don't know what you mean by the seams flowering. The case materia lis acid resistant, but I was wondering how it melts if I used a soldering iron to close the gap .
Crazy glue and graphite is interesting.
This battery was labeled 2018,100 off eBay,so Tom,tell your friend 150-200 would be my guess for eversure, which I guess is like a wisco or Willard..
          Thanks again
          Tom

            The Dixies were Eversure, Tom,

            (Old Delhi, not New...)

'Flowering' is that white fuzzy stuff.

Odds have to improve with a fresh and dry battery, but its still hard to imagine a sealer that would resist acid.

I've some old-fashioned sealing wax, but its red, of course.

I've got four in the box, Folks!

(And a VL, K battery, etc., etc.)

                No more electrolyte, though.

                      Bitumen would be worth investigating...

                      Its the right color!
