Has anyone had success with NGK BP7HS spark plugs? I was comparing them to the ones I have been running in my 46 and the electrode is longer and wonder if it would impact on the piston?

    Howdy sir,

It will not, I’ve run NGK BP7ES’s for years in both Chiefs which are much longer than those.

        Howdy sir,

And to u as well. As I’ve mentioned on here and CAIMAG periodically over the years where ignition and spark plugs are concerned, the closer to the combustion chamber and or less enshrouded u can get a plug in a Chief the better for vastly improved combustion. The caveat is oil burners will require a little more finesse to keep from fouling one when cold and along with a little restraint with the choke on cold starts. Unburnt fuel with a mixture of oil turns into a carbon grinding paste wearing top ends and valve guides. Pic below is the bore of my hotrod 80ci Chief after 20 years and about 12k miles when pulling the heads to lower the compression with thicker copper head gaskets. Light cross hatch still visible and no ridge above top compression ring. This machine has been run on long reach plugs and Clyde Crouch electronic ignition since 1997.

        Cheerio,
        Peter
