  • 1946 Chief Fuel Filter

I was having "junk" in my filter sediment bowl and I know I still have the original metal type filter in it. Looks like a lot of wire wrapped around a post.. I see that Greer has replacement paper filters, but I was wondering how the old original one is removed without destroying it. Does that original one just unscrew and the new paper one is held in with the long screw and that threads into the old threads? I'd hate to ruin my original one... but then again, I'm not sure it's not half clogged already.

just turn the bottom to unscrew the filter which is a stack of thin plates. They work fine,
The junk in the bowl has nothing to do with the filter.
