Try hot-waxing them afterward with a mix of neutral and a little brown shoepolish.

Chris,
Have you considered nail polish? I seem to recall my father painted a set of emblems with nail polish, it’s either enamel or lacquer I think, comes in a million colors, the emblems are chrome, if the color not just right wipe it down with acetone and start over.
These are my favorite Indian emblems, too bad they only used them 42 to 46. I have an original, and while it’s hard to see still has some red paint, but it’s aged to a brownish red

You can see the color (barely) in the blown up picture.
I’ve seen repops of these that are cast and not stamped. Interesting Greer’s website shows two screws being used

But as you can see on the original there should be a little nipple on the bottom that fits on an indent on the tank mount, then the emblem snaps over the mount and a small screw secures it on top. I have see these where the little nipple has been drilled out for a screw.

Had to paint a gauge pointer today, Folks,...
And my only nail polish that hadn't dried up was Germaine Monteil "Vermillion".
It looks light in the bottle, but dries to Indian Red.
Trust me.

PS: Its Vernais à Ongles resistant. Smells pretty hot too.Last edited by T. Cotten; 01-22-2023, 06:56 PM.AMCA #776
