    could someone tell me how many degrees before top dead center the $ mark is on the flywheel and is there any difference between the two half's of the flywheels? thanks

          That it.lotsof good info from a guy with a dyno and exhaustsensors and land speed record for his twin engine scout.

            so i have an engine without flywheel marks i need to know how to find tdc and have it accurate ,,, any ideas dont want to pull the head, thanks

              The most accurate way I found, Chris,...

              Was to fit very small tubing to a 14mm sparkplug fitting:

              Piston Position Gauge.jpg

              With the piston close to TDC, a drop of oil can be introduced at the end by wrenching the crank backwards slightly, and then cranking slowly forward it can be observed to rise and fall with the piston, and TDC can then be marked with precision.

                  once you determine tdc and your desired full advance point using Cottens method,borascope for smartphone etc. I would remove the breather tube elbow and make a center punch mark for future.
                  Maybe there is one already there.

                      but here's another little timing trick you can do.
                      When the exhaust valve on the rear cylinder just closes....the front cylinder fires.
                      Slowly turn your engine over, the moment you can spin the rear exhaust lifter as it's closing ...
                      set your distributor to fire on the front cyl.....at full advance.
