  • 47 Bonneville engine stamp question

This may sound like a stupid question but the stamp on the right side of my engine has a HH. What does the HH mean?

House of Horsepower probably didn't do Indians, but that would make a little sense.

I have never seen that HH. No mention of it in Hatfield's book. The font looks correct as far as what was used in 48 for the CDH. Yellow53Chief (Steven Bailey) would be the person to ask but I no longer have his contact info. He hasn't posted here in about 5 years. He has what is probably the largest existing photo database of Indian numbers.

You're onto something, if it wasn't House of Horsepower then some other rebuilder

Thank you everyone. I was confused because it seems like its always left blank. I could be a rebuilders stamp. I didn't know if it was a trim package or a motor setting. I know the Bonneville motors has different settings. It also has a magneto. and Bonn 6 carb.
I am VERY new to all this and am really enjoying the research.

Well I think the B M stands for Bonneville Magneto. Jerry

A date code of some sort? H is the 8th letter so if 1940 = A then 47 = H. So HH could be Aug 47. I know zero about Indians so it's purely a stab in the dark..
