  • Chief Kicker Stud

Any suggestions on how to get out the kicker stud easily on a '42 Chief? I heated up the casting it fits into and banged on 3/8" rod from the backside, with zero movement. Maybe I did not get it hot enough. I know Kiwi has a video online of how to do it, so is it all about getting it red hot?

Not sure if this is on point as info is from the 46-48 overhaul manual:

    Kick Starter Stud Replacement

    Removal

    1. Remove spring seat post.
    2. Remove square head set screw holding stud in frame.
    3. A hole is provided in the seat post tube of the frame on the side opposite the stud.
Drive the stud out of the right side of the frame.

I replaced mine on my '47 last week, exactly as Paul stated, from the manual. It was a tad loose, so I did not need much heat to remove. Not sure if '42 is the same.

the casting needs a solid support to keep frame from absorbing blows.
