Ser. No. ending with letter "B"??

Need the help of an Indian expert here. Have a friend with a 47 or 48ish Chief. He wants to know what the letter "B" designates at end of the serial number on his Chief in Illinoise. Any help I can pass on to him, he will greatly apreciate as he is aplying for the title..........

The "B" is not part of the VIN.
