1930's Indian Chiefs

I have a question about the tear-drop air cleaner covers on 1930's Indians.
I believe there was a "V" shaped metal screen but was there any other type of filter material
inside the cover, under the screen?

Just the metal screen,retaining wire and three screws with clips.A big improvement over 34 which had nothing but a plate to keep your pants from sucking in or catching on fire if a backfire.
