51 chief gas filter

I need to replace the filter screen which is missing from the bushing that goes in the gas tank.
Iv been looking for some donor screen/wire gauze and found VW tank screen 1970 that is a round tube,5/16 od and could easily be soldered to bushing and end cut off and crimped,$10,maybe long enough for two.
Any advice for this repair or screen source appreciated.Im familiar with mcmastercarr but starting with close od tube seems an easy start.

McMaster Carr has brass screen up to 100 x 100 in a 1" square; or more coarse. They are a great source for weird industrial stuff, and a fantastic company to deal with.

Very familiar with mcmaster but seems more like auto or tractor part will be better source to modify. vw,early ford and google shows Stiener,Polaris round filter screen.May have to stop by my local mower shop or order something online.

Greer has them. I used to get them from Stark too.
