  • 1945 Chief production numbers

Looking at a 1945 Chief, The person selling it says that in 45 very few were produced, I also see on e-bay one for sale and the seller states that just over 100 were produced in 1945.

    I have a couple questions,

    1) How many Chief's were made in 1945

    2) how many motorcycles total were made in 1945.

    Thanks for any help, Chuck

FWIW, Harry Sucher says in Iron Redskin that there were 4500 essential use Chiefs built during the war years...nothing more specific than that!
Pisten Bully is Harry Roberts in Vermont.

Dear Chuck, the Harley black book shows they produced 12,475 bikes that year, of which 2,715 were Big Twins. In the 1930s Harley were outselling Indian a little over two to one, so a first guess might be around a thousand Chiefs in 1945.
