I finally have my 1947 Chief running and on the road (metaphor for riding around the neighborhood.) My last 1500 mile trip from Indiana to South Dakota in 1992 involved turning the headlight on and off every 15 minutes to keep the battery charged but not fried. Today, that generator does not charge at all and is in pieces on my bench.
I am building a rider, not a show bike. I am considering Greer's generator for about $420.00. Is there an advantage or disadvantage to keeping it 6 volt? I have no problem converting bulbs to 12 volt. Does an inline resistor need to be added ahead of the coil?
