1946 transmission

46 Chief tranny started pooping out of first gear on take off. Time for a rebuild? Original trans, never been apart.

Paul, it has been a while since I worked on mine. If I remember correctly there is a large screw and lock nut on top of the transmission. It is an adjustment for the ball detente for each of the three gears. It may be as simple as an adjustment here. Get out your manual and check this first. Sorry I do not remember the procedure. This is what I would check first.

See above thread. I was fortunate a small adjustment to the detent was all mine needed and its still doing fine after thousands of miles.
Only make small adjustments at a time.
