stupid question of the day, standing on the right side of a 48 chief looking at the dist.cap does the forward wire go to the forward cylinder or rear?thanks

I'll take a stab at this one! Pull the distributor cap and look at the rotor, when the points are opening on the narrow cam lobe on the distributor shaft then that's supposed to be for the front cylinder. At this point your rotor should be pointing forwards to contact the terminal in the cap on the right, or forward, to fire the front cylinder, so the plug wire on the right, closest to the front of the machine should be for the forward cylinder.
