Indian Tire

I recently picked up an Indian branded tire made by the Armstrong Tire Co. It is an 18" size and I mounted it on an old Indian rim. Can anybody tell me what this unique treaded tire was used for? The only things I can think of is that it was included in the ski package kit you could by from Indian or possibly some type of hill-climb tire???
