What is the purpose of the small hole at the top of the gague cluster. It is above the amp gague and the key switch. About a 5/16 inch size hole.??

no holes above, but below there are the two holes to mount the dash-cover to the frame..........

If there is a single hole generally centered between and slightly above the amp gauge/ignition switch, it was probably added by a previous owner. Many people added an auxiliary light that illuminated the amp gauge that was unlighted and the speedo that, while factory illuminated was not very bright.
