    I am thinking of changing to an o ring chain for my chief ,has anyone had any problems doing this ? Thanks jerry

    Hi,
    An o ring chain will work fine. It must be remembered that an o ring chain is not maintenance free. If you dump your crankcase breather oil onto the chain, that would probably be enough. The oil from the crankcase breather can also end up all over the rear tire causing severe soiling. I dump my crankcase breather oil on the ground beneath the engine and manually oil my rear o ring chain every 500 miles. The high quality chain oils and chain waxes work well.

      O-ring chains are wider than standard chains. If your current chain is running close (or rubbing) your guards now, the O-ring chain will cut right through. I recall my 1940 Chief chain guard had chain cuts in it. . . Better check.
