Hi,working on my 36 Chief.Leaking oil from the generator drive area spraying all over the belt etc.I got the pulley off,but having trouble sliding the drive spocket off-hangs up on the primary chain. Is there a way to take it off with out removing the chain and if I have to remove it what does that entail? Thanks,Johnny Daytona Beach

You will have to loosen chain adjustment and pull clutch hub and you may get enough slack for basket to drop for clearance.

Is there a chance you have the primary over filled??? I ride a few worn out rigid chiefs and never encountered that problem....

Thanks for the replies, seems like I heard years ago that there is a bushing there that is prone to leak.Looks like I'm going to have to disassemble more than I wanted to,but isn't that usually the case?I noticed it was leaking a lot from the engine area area also .Are there gaskets, etc.that are prone to leak that maybe I should change while the bike is on the stand anyway? Thanks
