Valve upgrade

The person that restored my bike said that I have to use a lead additive because the valves were not up graded to tolerate unleaded gas. Would I have to change the valves and guides? Does this require special tools or a press? If so, any suggestions for someone that can do this work?

Just run what you have if it works. The aftermarket valves and guides that had been available for years were not of good quality. Usually worn out and needing replacement at less than 10,000 miles. Some suggest using a lubricant added to the gas, such as Marvel Mystery Oil. Does it help? I don't know.

Up to WWII they only used a top end oil as the gas was mostly unleaded.

Yep, I agree - I put just a touch of two stroke oil in mine, a tip from Lee Standley. Don't have hardend seats in any of my antiques. With my Sport Scout I was getting about 12,000 miles to a valve job and at that mileage. My valve guides were shot.
