I was at Wauseon and struck up a conversation with an old acquaintance about the progress of my '52 restoration. We discussed tanks and he mentioned the differences between the '52 & '53 tanks, but he kind of lost me, other than leaving me with the thought that the later tanks are narrower at the back. Anyone got a dimension, say from the mounting tab at the rear to the outside of the tank surface that would allow me to figure this out?

I have both 50 and 52-53 tanks. The 50-51 are like a 48 tank(same dash) but brazed, not soldered. The 52-53 tanks are about 1 3/4" from the rear mount to outside corner while the 50s are 2 1/4" also brazed..Very noticeable once you see the narrower tanks.

Soldered or brazed Panhead tanks? I have only seen welded tanks.Originally posted by tfburke3 View PostI have both 50 and 52-53 tanks. The 50-51 are like a 48 tank(same dash) but brazed, not soldered. The 52-53 tanks are about 1 3/4" from the rear mount to outside corner while the 50s are 2 1/4" also brazed..Very noticeable once you see the narrower tanks.
