  • 30's Indians fork lock

Does anyone have a idea on how to remove the lock for the fork on the Indian frames, and what can replace the lock? Thanks Stan

Normally there is just pressed inpin retaining the fork lock. Drill it out and the lock comes out. There is no exact Indian replacement. The modern HD replacement works well, can't really tell, but the lock can turn more than the quarter to half turn of the Indian lock. Looks fine in the frame. Originals are hard to find. The HD replacement also has the large frame lock pin that moves up and down to lock the fork as well as the small retaining pin. If there is anyway you can use your original, try and do so. Marty

I wonder if a locksmith could make a key? I was looking at mine tonight in great shape just no key.

I realize that this is different, and you're probably already aware of this... but on my 36 H-D VLH they did make a key for mine, although it did have a number stamped on it that he could read. I rode the VL to the shop and he made it while I waited.

I would assume that a key could be made... Keep us posted if you do have one made!! I would like to know for "future" reference.

            Stan,
The lock pin should come right out if you can turn the lock to open. Alan Zacharias, 507 387 1373, can make a key if you have the code numbers. Call him for advice.
