  • Cluch Worm Size?

What is the acme thread size of the clutch worm on a 1947 Chief?
I would like to make a tool to compress the springs.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I know a work around to your problem. You can use the primary chain cover to compress the spring, just use it backwards (or maybe inside out is a better way to say it). The thing is that you'll have the show surface of the cover up against your clutch when doing so, and if you are careless, you'll gouge and mar the surface of the cover. When I did it, I cut up the side of a milk jug to make a protector/gasket to put between the cover and the clutch. It worked no problem.
