Hello fellow enthusiasts,
My 53 chief motor is about to be re-built (new crank pin, rod bearings, pistons...the works) and the drive shaft, drive sprocket, and compensating sprocket parts are trashed. These parts are very expensive to replace. I am thinking of using the 74" regular drive shaft and sprocket rather than the compensating set-up to save on cost and hassle.
I am told, that it is not really necessary to use the compensating sprocket, except it saves some wear and tear on the drive-train.
Can anyone offer any advice as to any real noticable benefits to running the compensator?

PS: My frame is painted, shocks, fork and wheels rebuilt now.
