1938 Chief Oil Pump...

Is it supposed to be nickel plated or painted silver? I managed to get an original, correct year pump. Cleaned up well and rebuilt it today. But I can't tell if it was nickel or some kind of silver paint. Whatever was on there came off like paint... not plate.

I would guess Cadmium.

I think that guess is correct.Nickel for the 37 and earlier,but cad til 47.

Wasn't 38 a one year only pump??? I'm so old I can't remember all the differences, but it had a tiny, 1 year only plunger. I think it was 1/2" in 38. The later iron pumps are 5/8". Point being there could have been other differences also. Dennis Craig did a ton of research for his perfect 38, that's where I remember it from. You can contact him through the Foundation, I don't think he posts here.

Hey Bob,38 has no boss on the upper left,and I think your correct about smaller plunger.Cold back here in Nj,good time to be in Fl.
