I have the "prices good as of March 15, 1948" Indian accessory catalog and the only extensions in there are the 76104 and 76105 black iron extensions. Listed " Same as supplied with the Indian Chum-Me Seat". Keep in mind, most Chiefs didn't come with the Chum-Me seat, only Roadmasters. It was a dealer added accessory, #744003, which came in a box with the extensions and the springs. I have personally seen one of these, NOS, at Al Shirer's place near Allentown, PA years ago. He "loaned" it to a pal, who I believe still has it.
In the last page of the accessory book, they list "foot rest spools", #25B70X. These were round and had a 1 bolt mounting bracket. I've never seen these on Indians, but have seen 'em on Harleys.
The cover of the accessory book shows a couple ridding a 48 Chief, with saddlebags, Chum-Me seat and flat iron extensions.

For the eagle eyes out there... yes there have been a few changes but the dude assured me that he put all the "old" parts on the shelf!!! It's his rider and he did things like mount an oil filter...etc... It's hard to tell from the photos but the fenders are original paint.
Cory - Thanks for the pics. These are an excellent addition to my 48 reference file.

cdf6333 - Thank you for the followup with documentation. Just when I thought it was safe to go back in the water. LOL. I am checking back with the other source to see if they have any documention for the aluminum extensions in 48.

Is the 48 accessory book an item thats available reproduced? I'd like to pick up a copy for future reference.

Why not just decide which ones YOU prefer, since it is your Motorcycle, and use them?

Thanks Cory - Another very good reference. I had never ran across that video series in my searches. I did not know there isn't supposed to be a rubber strip around the 48 chrome dash bezel!

indianut - It's more of an issue of me letting the flat extensions be traded away which initially I thought "wasn't" an original part. Even though I wouldn't use them, I like to keep original parts as was installed when the bike was new.

As you say regardless of what's correct, we'll be using the raised extensions because they work perfectly for my wife. Happy wife happy life.
