rwar Here is a pic of my Seafoam Blue bike. I used the code from Greer's. I toyed with the idea of getting my bike judged and spent a bunch of money changing stupid stuff like bolts and what not. I ride this bike every chance I get and the idea of having it judged was sucking the fun right out of it so I decided to just wear the tires off it!! Which I have been 17K in 3 seasons. Just my 2 pennies worth.

Nice bike! And thank you very much for the picture of it.

But I'm still as confused as ever. The color I'm trying to pinpoint is lighter than that - I think. At least it looks that way in black and white photos. Maybe I'm being led astray by variations in digital pics, or, degradation of old photographs.

Does anyone have a suggestion? I have to assume it was a standard color because he got it out of a dealer's showroom.

That is a great looking bike phillie. I am impressed there is no oil catcher underneath it on the hardwood floor!

rwar - keep in mind colors change depending on lighting conditions, inside, outside, bright sun and especially old pics that are sure to be faded as you suspect. those are some cool old pics. I'd like to have that shirt he has on in the second pic

Here are some picks of my bike, you can see variations due to light angles,it has very little clear on it ,you could just do a one stage paint with no clear.
The paint was from Greer's paint chip.

I'll try to attach a 1948 Chief order sheet to this. Actually this board doesn't allow pdfs as attachments and a jpeg is too big to attach.
Go to my web site, oldstylebolts.com
                click on assembly sets
                click 1948 Chief
and print a copy of an orig order sheet

It lists Indian Red, Seafoam Blue, and Deluxe Black. We know that later in the year Prairie Green was available, it's listed in the accessory catalog for touch up paint. And I've personally seen an orig paint Prairie Green at an early 80's Indian Rally, I believe the one in Danbury. Somewhere I have pics of that perfect low mileage Indian. I remember it well because it was the first Chief I ever saw with the rear fender to shock area bolts installed "backwards" (nuts out) as I later found was correct!

Got it going! Thanks for the video, except my kicking leg got tired just watching it! You just know it's got new compression and is hard to kick when you watch him put all his weight into it and that kicker arm doesn't budge!
