    Can any one tell me what year this tank is from

    I don't know the exact range, but a 1966-68 era Sportster XLCH used one like that. Hope this helps.

      I know they came on some xlh , im just not sure what year this style of rear bracket was used on and for how long , any info that can lead to a definitive year would be great

        Actually XLH, No '60s XLCH ever used that tank.
        '67 to '78 electric start Sportster, beginning with electric start and running through the last of the early style frame. The '79 and later frame required a different tank. So did XLCRs.

            Ok but in my parts book they show this style tank going back as far a K models , so how do i determine if the this is K model or XLH and what years this is correct for

              Perhaps I was not clear enough. That oil tank is for a '67 to '78. It is different from the earlier one. I took it that this is what you were asking. It is not a K model tank or any other model pre '67. This describes the tank you posted pictures of, no other.

                      Sorry, the first tank is 67 and up, the second is 56 (maybe 54 to 55) to 66 KH/XLH.
