Sportster Triple Trees or Dashboard

Hey guys another dilemma on the build. I either have the wrong triple trees or the wrong dashboard for my 1957 Sportster. The part number on the bottom tree is 45707-52A the top tree i have does not have a part number on it. I thought everything was good until i tried mounting the dashboard that fits over the top tree. The fork tubes line up but the neck hole does not, do i have the wrong trees or the wrong dashboard? My dashboard is an original because it has the provisions for the flipper covers for the ignition switches, not sure if they made different ones for K models than Sportster. Anyway something doesn't match up, its either the trees or the dashboard. Although many original dashboards i have found the back end of the dashboard was always notched out around neck, is this why? Any help is greatly appreciated. But if this is common why would Harley manufacture something that didn't fit properly?
