Gentlemen,
I purchased an early sportster shift lever on ebay for my '64 CH to replace the original one that I had ground, polished and chromed when I was a kid. It appears to be exactly like P/N 34606-54A, except that it has a splined hole, rather than smooth. Also, while it has the P/N cast into the back side of the lever, only the -58 part of the number is readable. The first 5 numerals are obscured by the cut-out. Did Harley make a splined shifer lever starting in 1958? Maybe for a KH or KHK? If so, my 1955-1965 Sportster/KH parts book doesn't list it.
In any event - I won't modify this part to work. Does anyone know what this part is for?
Also, does anyone have an unchromed shift lever that they would like to sell or barter?
Thanks,
Bill Pedalino
