    Spprtster Headlight visor ?

    What is the notch on the back edge of the visor for, and what years was it used. I have seen this a few times. also what was the last year the smooth style visor/ cover used? 45653087-1963-harley-davidson-motorcycle-std.jpg

    I think that it’s for the optional tachometer drive cable if I remember correctly.

      And the smooth style would be used for electronic tach which does not use a cable.

        By the advent of the electronic tach the visor was a different shape.

          so I am assuming the notch would only be on 65 and later, since that was the first year it was offered...? Also what was the last year of the smooth visor?

            The optional tach first appeared in mid '62 and most XLCHs had them.They were on fixed advance magnetos initially, then the manual advance from '65. If the tach "kit" was bought over the counter there was a sheet telling how to cut the notch. The smoth style eyebrow was used until 1969 however there are several variation depending on which switch was used, which headlight was used, and whether there was a high beam indicator in it.

                  ​ That notch was for mid 1962 to 1964. Example on an original paint 62 ch.
