  • 1964 XLCH Steering Damper with Speedo

So...anyone have a diagram or at least knowledge of the assembly of the Steering Damper on a 1964 XLCH when you have a Speedo? I have the Spare Parts book and can see how it mounts when there is no Speedo but there is no description for one with a Speedo. Also, I'm looking at the photos of the 64 XLCH on the National Motorcycle Museum site and can see where the older style damper knob was moved underneath between the forks. That makes sense and is doable but I would need to make a shorter rod and drill out the bottom guide/retainer nut that is not threaded all the way through in order to allow a threaded rod to fit. I can't finish mounting the Speedo or fix the electical mess until I figure this out. Hopefully someone has experienced this pain previously and can guide me?
