I Have a couple of battery boxes (carriers) and I'm not sure which one is original to this bike. One has a raised, welded strap on the bottom with two holes that line up with the holes on circuit breaker No. 74589-70 which I believe is the correct one. The problem is that the breaker's wires have factory installed eye terminals and the length of the wire that's supposed to connect to the ignition switch is too short. However, it's the perfect length to reach the B+ regulator terminal which electrically, is the same connection point. But this conflicts with the factory wiring diagram although I suspect that I have the correct battery box and circuit breaker. Can anyone confirm this assumption?
    Thank you...

    Bill,
I think if you connect to the regulator rather than the ignition switch you won't have any power to the switch. 74589-70 is the correct breaker for your bike

      vph-d,
There's a wire running from the B+ regulator terminal to the B terminal on the switch, so its the same (common) connection point electrically. Technically, it doesn't follow the wiring diagram, but physically, it makes better sense to me, so that's what I'll do. This is going to be a 'Period Modified' bike for judging purposes. However, I'm really trying to keep it original because when the time comes to sell it I would like to tell the buyer, with confidence, that it can be made fully judgeable without major modification.
Yes, I agree that I have the correct breaker. If somebody had previously shortened the ignition switch wire, they did a very good job, as the terminal end looks identical to OEM.

I found a NOS circuit breaker still enclosed in the factory packaging. The wires are the the correct lengths to allow proper connections. It looks like somebody did shorten the wires on the one I had and apparently did a very good job of it, as it looks almost the same ass the OEM terminal connections. So at least this problem has been solved.
